W1 Dry Distillation House II

Built in 1918, the building originally served as the distillation plant. The dry distillation method involved reheating and melting crude camphor to remove moisture and impurities, producing highly purified refined camphor. After further processing, it was made into celluloid, which was widely used in the production of film, gunpowder, nitric acid, and other industrial materials. The building is constructed of red bricks, featuring large windows and monitor roof designed to enhance interior airflow. The south side of the building was once connected to an underground chimney. Today, only the remnants of these underground structures offer a glimpse into the site's former production processes.
